{"id":25759,"date":"2022-02-23T21:05:45","date_gmt":"2022-02-23T21:05:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/publicknowledge.org\/?p=25759"},"modified":"2022-06-27T15:17:10","modified_gmt":"2022-06-27T15:17:10","slug":"privileged-conversations-march-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/publicknowledge.org\/privileged-conversations-march-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Privileged Conversations | March 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Public Knowledge has the pleasure of hosting a multifaceted program focused on training and developing the next generation of tech policy experts and public interest advocates that reflects the diversity of voices and experiences in our society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our monthly Career Breakfast Series is designed for students &amp; recent graduates to learn about tech policy and public interest work, careers, and its community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On March 4th, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious breakfast while talking to our special guest <strong>Harlan Yu.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harlan Yu is the Executive Director of Upturn. Based in Washington D.C., giUpturn advances equity and justice in the design, governance, and use of technology. Recently, Harlan has focused on the impact of emerging technologies in policing and the criminal legal system, such as body-worn cameras and mobile device forensic tools, and in particular their disproportionate effects on communities of color.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harlan has extensive experience working at the intersection of technology and policy. He has previously worked at Google in both engineering and public policy roles, as a technologist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and at the U.S. Department of Labor. Prior to founding Upturn, his research and projects focused on open government, consumer privacy, and electronic voting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harlan holds a Ph.D. in \u200b\u200bcomputer science from Princeton University and a B.S. in electrical engineering and computer science from UC Berkeley. He is a non-resident fellow at the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This is a private event<\/strong>.
