This Executive Order builds on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/ostp\/ai-bill-of-rights\/\">AI Bill of Rights<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/02\/16\/fact-sheet-president-biden-signs-executive-order-to-strengthen-racial-equity-and-support-for-underserved-communities-across-the-federal-government\/\">Advancing Racial Equity Order<\/a> to advance civil rights in the digital age. Public Knowledge is pleased to see the order address such important issues as privacy, promoting competition, and responsible AI development and deployment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following can be attributed to Chris Lewis, President and CEO of Public Knowledge:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are happy to see this administration continue its important work to ensure that any advancements in artificial intelligence benefit Americans as a whole, rather than the select few. It is important to create the right set of incentives that encourages innovation while minimizing risks to safety, preventing discrimination, and supporting labor. While this Executive Order is an important first step, its impact is limited to the power of the federal agencies to lead by example through procurement and research. We hope to see Congress continue its work in developing a robust regulatory framework for AI.
