{"id":38463,"date":"2025-11-18T18:42:40","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T18:42:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/publicknowledge.org\/?p=38463"},"modified":"2025-11-18T19:09:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T19:09:20","slug":"a-recap-of-the-peoples-oversight-hearing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/publicknowledge.org\/a-recap-of-the-peoples-oversight-hearing\/","title":{"rendered":"A Recap of The People\u2019s Oversight Hearing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On November 12, 2025, Public Knowledge convened former agency staff, seasoned practitioners, civil society leaders, and members of Congress for a day of unyielding investigation into the failure of independent agencies to serve the public interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The People\u2019s Oversight Hearing\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/av6Ks0gZplc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the absence of congressional oversight hearings, Public Knowledge \u2013 joined by the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), Public Citizen, TechFreedom and other organizations \u2013 stepped up to demand accountability from the Federal Communications Commission, Federal Trade Commission, and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This hearing demanded that the FTC refocus on the unchecked corporate consolidation that is <em>actually<\/em> harming consumers and go after the lack of transparency and accountability in current markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lunch break was bookended with video appearances by Rep. Summer L. Lee (D-PA) and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).
