{"id":3849,"date":"2017-05-18T16:33:00","date_gmt":"2017-05-18T16:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.publicknowledge.org\/press-release\/godfather-director-to-fcc-chairman-pai-preserve-net-neutrality-rules-for-arts-community\/"},"modified":"2024-12-09T23:02:32","modified_gmt":"2024-12-09T23:02:32","slug":"godfather-director-to-fcc-chairman-pai-preserve-net-neutrality-rules-for-arts-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/publicknowledge.org\/godfather-director-to-fcc-chairman-pai-preserve-net-neutrality-rules-for-arts-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Godfather Director to FCC Chairman Pai: Preserve Net Neutrality Rules for Arts Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-d22ba28e-1c68-d590-f477-a375934cc7df\">Today, Public Knowledge <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/jXGMqXfYF3Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">launched a video<\/a> showcasing Francis Ford Coppola\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/publicknowledge.org\/policy\/francis-ford-coppola-letter-to-chairman-pai-defending-net-neutrality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recent letter<\/a> to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai asking him to preserve net neutrality rules for the arts community.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-d22ba28e-1c68-d590-f477-a375934cc7df\">The video encourages the audience to join the famed director in speaking up by submitting comments to the FCC, and redirects to a petition that will submit comments after the agency\u2019s \u201csunshine\u201d period has passed for the current <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/publicknowledge.org\/fcc-chairman-pai-announces-plan-to-roll-back-net-neutrality-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Notice of Proposed Rulemaking<\/a> addressing net neutrality.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-d22ba28e-1c68-d590-f477-a375934cc7df\">The following can be attributed to Kate Forscey, Associate Policy Counsel at Public Knowledge:<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-d22ba28e-1c68-d590-f477-a375934cc7df\">\u201cNet neutrality is immensely important for the arts community. Strong Open Internet rules enable filmmakers, writers, graphics designers, YouTube vloggers, game developers and more to explore new ideas, raise funding for cutting edge projects and share their work with the public. The open internet provides a depthless well of inspiration that offers artists of every stripe independence to follow their creative passion wherever it leads. Such open access is especially important for fostering risky or controversial art that challenges our thinking as a society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-d22ba28e-1c68-d590-f477-a375934cc7df\">\u201cNet neutrality rules \u2014 which currently prevent broadband providers from blocking websites, throttling connections or charging content creators for \u2018fast lane\u2019 privileges \u2014 also help the creative community reach wider audiences and explore new ideas without the threat of being blocked (or censored) by ISPs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-d22ba28e-1c68-d590-f477-a375934cc7df\">\u201cWithout these rules, business interests will make it harder for artists to create, and for Americans to enjoy their great work.
