Markey (D-Mass.) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markey.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/senator-markey-leads-resolution-to-restore-fccs-net-neutrality-rules\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced plans<\/a> to introduce a Congressional Review Act resolution to undo today&rsquo;s <a href=\"{page_5100}\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Federal Communications Commission vote<\/a> to roll back the agency&rsquo;s 2015 net neutrality rules. The rules prevented broadband providers from blocking websites, throttling web traffic, or creating &ldquo;fast lanes&rdquo; only for those able to pay for prioritization. Joined by 15 senators, a CRA would restore the agency&rsquo;s 2015 Open Internet Order, which the D.C. Circuit Court upheld not once, but <a href=\"{page_4878}\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">twice<\/a>. Public Knowledge commends Sen. Markey for continuing his efforts to protect net neutrality for all Americans.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-bcdcf631-5698-5ea5-63f4-a96a54bef631\">The following can be attributed to Chris Lewis, Vice President at Public Knowledge:<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-bcdcf631-5698-5ea5-63f4-a96a54bef631\">&ldquo;Given the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/the-switch\/wp\/2017\/12\/12\/this-poll-gave-americans-a-detailed-case-for-and-against-the-fccs-net-neutrality-plan-the-reaction-among-republicans-was-striking\/?utm_term=.4ae094588a08\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">clear consensus<\/a> outside the beltway, it is no surprise that there has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.king.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/NN%2012-14.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bipartisan opposition<\/a> in Congress to this horrible vote at the FCC today. We support Senator Markey&rsquo;s plans to overturn the repeal of the net neutrality rules using the Congressional Review Act and encourage all senators to join him in support. Broadband providers have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/12\/13\/16771876\/net-neutrality-michael-powell-isp-fcc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">already begun<\/a> altering their public network management policies to allow for practices prohibited by the repealed rules. Policymakers must act before real damage is done to the free market and free expression online.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-bcdcf631-5698-5ea5-63f4-a96a54bef631\">&ldquo;The American public should not give up on this fight. The FCC can ignore the overwhelming view of the public, but Congress cannot without consequences come the November elections.
